Does GitHub Actions / Codespaces have a hard spending cap?

Yes Per the docs as of Oct 14, 2026: GitHub budgets can block additional usage when the budget is exhausted via “Stop usage when budget limit is reached”.

How do I turn on a spending limit in GitHub Actions / Codespaces?

  1. Billing and licensing > Budgets and alerts > New budget.
  2. Choose product (e.g. Actions or Codespaces), scope, and amount.
  3. Select “Stop usage when budget limit is reached” if available.

Console labels change; if a step doesn't match, follow the official doc.
