How do I turn on a spending limit in Google Gemini API / AI Studio?

1. Option A (Prepay): purchase credits in the AI Studio Billing page; if you enable auto-reload, set a Monthly Limit under Manage auto-reload.
2. Option B (project cap): in AI Studio open the Spend page > Monthly spend cap > Edit spend cap (requires project editor, owner or admin).
3. Know your tier cap: Tier 1 $250, Tier 2 $2,000, Tier 3 $20,000–$100,000 per month per the docs.

What happens when the Google Gemini API / AI Studio limit is hit?
